Your tradition is holding you back from living your best life.

Change is one most single and difficult things people struggle to do. Part of the reason is that the mind loves and thrives on comfort. The mind always looks for ways to curb danger and as soon as it finds a place of safety and comfort, it will settle there. As a result, humans generally find it incredibly challenging to change from ancient ways of doing things and adopting new ways. Tradition helps keep us sane, even in business. Most of us think the 1950s when we hear the words tradition, but tradition also means the things we used to do a year ago. The things which may have been relevant a year ago may not necessarily be relevant today. Your tradition is holding you back from living your best life.

What worked a year ago, may not necessarily be relevant today.

“We have always done it this way”, we have probably heard these words perhaps a million times or we may have been the ones who uttered these words. This is one of the statements that prove to us when we have found comfort and we have no intention of changing that. Tradition can cause us to tarry in spaces where we should be passing by. We need to constantly ask ourselves if where we are is where we should be even when we are doing well. We may find ourselves still operating in a state of mind that we should have abandoned. Often at times, we find ourselves in endless and pointless routines that lead nowhere because traditional ways are what we have endorsed. What may have worked a year ago may not be effective for us currently and it may not have the potential to take us where we aspire to go. Your tradition is holding you back from living your best life.

No room for knowledge in the tradition

Tradition discourages new ways of living and doing things. When we embrace the “we have always done it this way” attitude we discard all other learning and knowledge we need to improve our lives. Do not get me wrong, I am not insinuating that tradition is totally bad. We however need to know when we are stuck because of holding on to traditional ways of doing things. As the world progresses, we need to be progressive as well. We need to ask ourselves if the traditional ways that we are holding on to for dear life permit us to embrace change and progression.

To get ahead we must be willing to change and adapt. Tradition has a way of blinding us from seeing where we want and perhaps need to go, if I were to rephrase that, I would say, traditions have a way of blurring our lane lines and we may end up in lanes that we should not be operating in. We may need to look at the tradition which we should update. That is where change and transformation start. The willingness to grow should be equivalent to our willingness to transform and change.
