The lies we keep feeding ourselves
After taking a break from working on any life coaching content for the blog due to the amount of work I had, I have always had ideas of what I needed to focus on. Just a few weeks ago I took to social media this question “what are the lies you keep telling yourself about yourself?” and I found the responses quite interesting. Maybe I should ask you the same question, what are the lies you keep telling yourself about yourself? Try and remember everything you deem to be a lie that you keep telling yourself. (Do this before you proceed reading the rest of the article). We lie to ourselves because lies keep us going and secure.
Just existing
But what is the need for anyone to remember the lies they keep telling themselves about themselves? There is a great need for each of us to be completely truthful with ourselves. We must refuse to live our lives in limbo. Do you know that you could be untruthful to yourself even when everything is going well? So, I do believe that it is imperative for each of us to know the things we constantly tell ourselves and deem them to be lies. Are you aware of the lies you feed yourself? We lie to ourselves because lies keep us going and secure.
Common trends in people
It was quite insightful to learn about the things that people believe to be lies and yet they keep feeding themselves the very same lies. I have also had to investigate my own life to look at the things I consider to be lies. I wondered how we could be comfortable feeding ourselves what we are cognisant to be lies. In a conversation with a couple of people, I picked up the same trend that we are amazingly comfortable with concluding that we keep telling ourselves lies. This helps us get by. It is like being on autopilot.
The lies we feed ourselves. Are they truly lies?
Here is what I found when I analysed the responses, well, of course not everyone falls within this analysis. Most of us deem what we tell ourselves lies even when they are not lies but our true desires. We are comfortable with naming it “the lies we constantly tell ourselves, “Even when it is not but what we truly desire. We are living in fear that we might not achieve our desires and we find comfort in deeming them as the lies we feed ourselves. Most of what we believe to be a far-fetched dream – “the lies we tell ourselves about ourselves” are what we long for. These are the things that we want to achieve, and we find comfort is naming them otherwise just in case we do not achieve them. Revisit your list of “the lies we tell ourselves about ourselves”
Reflections
The beauty about life is that at any moment we can choose what to believe. If your life has the things you deem to be lies but are truly your desires, I want to you imagine how your life would be like. Wait, I bet you do that often. You do imagine your life in a different state should you achieve the things you deem as lies that you tell yourself. If this, is you, then, they honestly are not lies, but your desires and you need to achieve them?
Are the things on your list not your desires? Would you consider including this list of things you consider to be lies to your vision board? How would you start working on the first lie on your list to be your life’s reality? Can you rename that list to “my truthful and achievable desires?”
