Priorities and life series two
I love road trips and seeing the world outside of where I commune daily. I honestly would not mind a job that pays me to travel and see the world. Traveling expands your horizon. It makes one realize how much there is to learn in the world. Meeting people who live differently from you teaches you a lot about life and prioritizing. You also learn that the things you care about do not mean much to other people because they just value life more.

When planning a trip, whether it is a random or a planned one, planning the route is a major part of any trip. Once you decide on a destination, the route which you must take must be decided on. You can decide to take the longer route or a shorter route. I remember a trip we took to the Mpumalanga province, South Africa for Thozama’s birthday. We left in the early hours of the morning because we wanted to via Pilgrim’s Nest and have breakfast there. Though there was a shorter route of arriving at our ultimate destination, we took a longer route because we wanted to experience different parts of the province in one trip.

We aimed to enjoy the route, and that cannot be possible without great sing-along music and laughter. Before our departure, we had to fill up the car, pump the tires, basically making sure that the car was in good condition for the trip. We also needed to agree about what we wanted to experience on the road trip. Just like when we set the goals for ourselves, we need to know what the ultimate destination is and put out measures in place that will create a conducive environment for us to achieve that which we want to achieve.

With our route perfectly planned we got lost. When we got lost two of us in the car had taken a nap and the other two were awake. Getting lost did not stop us from going ahead with the trip we had to find our way. One can’t help but think of what would have happened if all of us were awake and we focused on the road. With our priorities all set and our destination decided on, we still got the route wrong at some point, however, we stopped and considered where we took a wrong turn that led us in a different direction.

How do we ensure that we constantly check if we are still on the right track? Getting lost will delay us from reaching our destination on time. Who will hold us accountable? We need to avoid people who sleep on us and when they have the front-row seat to our goals.

How are your priorities kept in check?
