  • Honest with my feelings but I am not emotional

How would you describe how you feel? I asked myself this question and I was not certain about how I should answer it. The reality of how I felt and the willpower were at loggerheads. This happened when I asked myself about a decision that I needed to make, this decision challenged my livelihood, my comfort and the life that I am so used to.

How often do you introspect? I found myself questioning a lot of what I believe in, about work, relationships, the books that I read and the social scenes that I like. Can you and I honestly say that we enjoy the things that we seem to be enjoying? Imagine going to a restaurant that does not serve the food that you love and yet you find yourself eating there. You will get full, however, would you say that you had the best meal of your life?

Loneliness does not come from not having people around, but from being unable to communicate the things that seem important to you – Carl Jung

In the same breath, imagine doing the things that you do not like, you might have a good time, however, would you say that you had the best time of your life? You and I need to fill our lives with the things that we love, the things that fuel our spirits.

In the first article of the “honest series,” I wrote about having an honest conversation with yourself”. Fuelling our spirits with the thing that we love starts by having that very honest conversation with yourself, and at times these conversations might not be comfortable. By all means, you and I need to go to the places that make us feel good about ourselves, eat the food that we love, listen to the music that speaks to our souls, even if all these are unconventional, we should do it.

You and I need to carefully consider the things that make us doubt ourselves, the food that we do not enjoy, the music that does not speak to our souls. Should we decide to be honest about how we feel about the things that we engage in right now, what are the things that we will leave behind all because they leave us not feeling good about ourselves?

You and I deserve to feel great all the time, we, therefore, need to engage in those things that make us feel great. Can you list those things that make you feel good and perhaps prioritise them?

Self-care is very important in this regard. The future depends on the sustainable work we do today.
