  • Goal setting series 1 – How intentional are you about reaching your goals?

With the past decade having passed, most of us have gotten to realise that reaching our desired goals can be quite challenging. We are in the new year and it is expected that most of us are excited to have made it to the new year with a renewed vision and goals.

I like conversing with people from all walks of life and this is because I believe that there is always something to learn from everyone. I received a text from a gentleman I met 8 years ago, Sisa Jack. We both worked for the same man but in different divisions. A brilliant mind he is. I have had the privilege to engage with him on numerous discussions that have left me enlightened. He proposed that I write about goal setting and what this means, and I was excited about his suggestion.

Do not just be caught up in the euphoria and hype of dreaming big without putting in the work – Sisa Jack

Most of us dream of living a good life. Only you and I can dream and be what we want to be. How would you describe the life that you want to live? You may be living a good life as it is, and you still have goals that you want to achieve. How would you describe those goals that you have? We all have a responsibility towards ourselves to make our dreams and goals a reality.

Building a castle in the air – English Idiom

We need to move past the hype and the excitement of having goals if we are to achieve the goals we have set for ourselves. What measures should we put in place to achieve our set goals? As cliché as this may sound, do we have our goals written on paper. Habakkuk 2:2-3 “White down the vision and clearly inscribe it on the tablets, that the one who reads it may run with it. For this vision is for a future time. It describes the end, and it will be fulfilled. If it seems slowly coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place. It will not be delayed.”

Let us carefully consider the goals we have set for ourselves, and what they mean to us (list them if you can). How much do we believe that we can achieve them? We need to consider if we can bring them to reality, and if we think we do not have the capacity, what measures do we need to put in place to create our capacity for our set goals?

What goals have you set for yourself and what do they mean to you?
