Do you struggle with achieving your goals every time?

January is usually a month where most people set new goals for themselves. It is a time when most people hope and pray to do better and be better themselves. A lot of new goals are set in January for the entire year. After all, we all want to do better than we did in the previous year. We all set goals with the aim to achieve every one of them and paint a picture of what life will look like when we have reached the goals we have set and then we embark on a journey to achieve all that we have set our minds to. We are working on reaching our goals every time. Do you struggle with achieving your goals every time?

Goals review

When you visit your goals from the previous year, how well would you rate yourself on achieving them on a scale of 1-10 (where 1 is bad and 10 is excellent)? Whatever rating you give yourself, I want you to ask yourself what made you achieve your goals and if you were not able to achieve them, ask yourself what made you not achieve your goals. Do you struggle with achieving your goals every time?

What goes into setting goals?

Most of us think setting goals and working on our visions boards is just that, setting goals and working on our vision boards. There is more that goes into setting our goals to achieve them. We need to constantly visit our core beliefs. What is it that we believe about ourselves? The fear of success is another aspect of life that we need to consider. Are you scared of succeeding? Do you struggle with achieving your goals every time?

Are you scared?

We may be surprised that we are afraid of success, and this is because of the past experiences that have left emotional and psychological scarring in us. There are emotional and psychological scars that have been there for so long that has caused us to believe things that are untrue about ourselves.

These may be the emotional and psychological challenges that affect your success;

Self-limiting core beliefs

What do you believe about yourself? What you believe yourself to be has a direct impact on the goals you want to achieve. If your core beliefs are negative, you will make decisions that are congruent with that belief. Our choices are aligned with what we believe.

Negative self-talk

Negative self-talk is directly aligned to what we believe. We cannot think, speak or behave outside of what we believe about ourselves

Unclear sense of who you are

This results from how you were raised as a child. If in your upbringing you never allowed to be yourself. If you were always called out for being too outspoken, or emotional, or anything, you might be living your life always wanting to live within the parameters set by others, you might also be living your life to please other people.

Do you also know that trying to be more like your parents might be another reason because this might have taken an opportunity from you to be like YOU?

Trauma

If you experienced trauma at any point in your life, neglect, abuse, etc that you have not completely healed from. This could be a reason reaching your goals is a challenge to you. This could also be the reason you have constant anxiety attacks, fear, doubt, and constant mind blocks and these could pose themselves as a hindrance for you to move forward and reach your goals.

Reflections

There is more that I will include in the next article on what prevents us from reaching our goals. If any of these or because you know yourself better and have thought of some things I have not mentioned popped up in your mind, don’t despair, there is hope for the living. For as long as there’s still breath in you, there is hope for you and a way forward.
