Don't feed what you want dead. Racism.Habits

Have you heard this phrase before, “we are what we consume”, and this is mostly used when referring to weight loss? But the truth is this phrase applies to all that we do in this life, we are indeed what we consume. Imagine trying to lose weight and yet we continue to indulge in food that is counter-productive to your weight loss of gain target, it simply would not serve our purpose right. You cannot get rid of what you continue to feed: Racism and bad habits

So then, what makes us comfortable with consuming the things that are counter-productive to our existence. The constant support of systems and people that are counter-productive to our existence should be one of the things we need to look at if we are to get ahead and achieve the things we want. We need to stop the support of the racist system.

We should refuse to be disrespected

Though you cannot force anyone to respect you, you are well able to refuse to be disrespected. We need to understand a banana tree will continue to give us bananas for as long as the tree is still there and taken care of. The disrespect will persist for as long as we continue to tread around it as we do on eggshells. Bad habits are so disrespectful and they do not care where you are, bad habits have a way of showing up even when you have pure intentions of being in your best behaviour and they will continue being like that until we uproot its source. More like racism, it will show up even when you have pure intentions of being in your good behaviour, and the truth is, it is until those with racist attitudes decide to uproot it.

The former influences the latter

Those who love history always say, “you must know where you come from to get a clear picture of where you are going”. There are many reasons for this phrase, one being knowing what happened prior helps you navigate better, and you will be able to avoid unnecessary future mistakes. So here, where we are right this moment, do we know what mistakes we need to avoid in the future because of our past? We need to understand that a year from today will be the former and the decisions we make today will inform us what our latter days will look like. Our stance on racism and bad habit today already inform us of our latter days. Will we get surprised by the results of our latter days?

Latter-day thinking

If we do not deal with racism, our kids, and generations to come will suffer the same injustices as the oppressed do today. The same way if we do not deal with our bad habits, every other new venture we embark on will be influenced by our bad habits. I wrote an article on regret-free living (https://bit.ly/2XJuOtY) and makes us ponder on our latter days while enjoying being alive today. The truth is, the issues and challenges we avoid dealing with today will remain and to a certain extend grow. The racism and oppression that we see today will make its way into our latter days should we decide to turn a blind eye on it. Likewise, with our bad habits, they will surely meet us in our latter days.

Reflections

Whatever is a problem today will be a problem in the future if it is not dealt with today. Our decisions today are a direct reflection of our latter days. What we allow today, we will meet in the future. We should ponder on the things that we allow today because we will surely meet them in our latter days.
