“I do not say this to people who aren’t me, but you’ve got to calm down,” Emily said this to her colleague in a movie called The Devil wears Prada. This was after seeing how anxious her colleague was as she looked at her day’s work and wondering if she would be able to complete all her projects on time. Keep your cool.
We are all aware of what the world is facing currently. With a lot of economic uncertainty and most people are just wondering how they will come out of this so-called uncertainty. When life throws us in the deep end when we are least prepared, we get to panic, and it is right there when we start to panic that we lose sense of who we are and what we are. What is to become of us when we lose ourselves during a time of distress?
It is in a time of distress that we get to hear a lot of voices and it is entirely upon us to discern which voice is sound and which is not, but the most important voice you need to listen to is your voice. The stillness of your voice is more likely to guide you in the right direction. There is so much noise in the world and it is imperative that we learn to still hear our voices. When last did you close the door to external voices to listen to yourself?
Have you ever experienced the rigor of your sound mind? Like Emily, I am trying to say to you “you’ve got to learn to calm down”. You are a great source of solutions to yourself. Maybe you have never heard anybody say that to you, but the truth is, you are. And this is what we get to find out when we calm down in times of distress. This, however, is not a once of exercise that you engage in. Let’s say, it works like your bank account, you can only withdraw from your bank account only when you have deposited in it.
Most of us shy away from being alone with our thoughts. Being alone forces us to face our thought, healthy or not. Whatever we have been depositing in the reserves of our minds is what we will withdraw when we are faced with extreme anxiety and we have to spend time on our own.
Still with the uncertainties and with a lot of people voicing out their opinions about the future and the times, yes, I refer to it as opinion because nothing can be your fact or truth until you accept it to be your fact or truth. From all the voices that are talking, if you take your time to analyze what is being said, you will know what each of those voices have been depositing in their mental reserves. Whether we are aware of it or not, we deposit into our mental reserves daily and it comes our mostly when we are distressed.
Your mind is your bank and what you deposit into will be exactly what you will withdraw when you visit your reserves. Are you aware of what you keep on depositing into your mental reserves? How do your deposits look like? Can you honestly keep calm and feed off what you are currently depositing into your mental reserves?
Careful that you do not give too much of your ears to those who cannot be still by themselves because they do not want to listen to the deposits of their mental reserves. You have got to learn to calm down and listen to your sound mind? How have you cultivated your mind to be a sound one?

Healthy deposits and learning how to actually extract the deposits when we are down. Indeed a tough exercise but vital for our mental health, we are all we have. No matter how strong our support system is, at the end it is ‘us’ that can steer ourselves from situations. Great article ❤️❤️

Thank you for this Mega. I think many of us need to be reminded of this, especially in times like these. It is times of such distress, stillness and uncertainty where we have to turn to ourselves. It is in this stillness where all the masks are taken off and can no longer run away from our thoughts, feelings and realities. Work, social gatherings, alcohol, friends, movement, human interaction has all been restricted and now all we have is ourselves and what lies within us. A real time where our self-reliance and self efficiency is tested. Can we truly turn to ourselves and is there something to turn to if we’re empty because we’ve never taken the time to deposit and invest all that is good and healthy within us. Some haven’t taken the time to get to know themselves and their truth and that’s not an easy process. But it is in this stillness where we really get the opportunity to know ourselves and our truth. However, in the stillness some will realize the toxicity and negativity they’ve deposited and invested in themselves. Some will find it easier to run away from the stillness because Its easier to rely on the external than to face the internal. And some will find it easier to run away because they have nothing in their reserves to turn back to.

Hello Bulelani
Thank you for engaging.
WOW. You have said a mouthful. such depth.
I read a comment that said, “we are all we have”.
The sooner we face our internal realities the better it will be for us.
The sooner we clean up spaces that need cleaning up, the better we will enjoy our specs and not rely on external factors for reliance.
We really appreciate your engagement. We hope and pray this will help each of us to look within and make necessary adjustments.
