For some of us the only time we hear the word complement, is right at the beginning of the year, from the first of January, well and all the way through to March for those who do not know when to stop.
Can you imagine the very first time a cocktail was mixed? Hmm, it must have been considered a messy drink when it was being mixed but the final product, being so colourful, looked attractive and most appetizing.
Most of us have attempted mixing a cocktail of our own in the comfort of our homes, be it a virgin or an alcoholic cocktail and well, whatever the results were, I hope you enjoyed it. Consider the time you mixed your own cocktail, how playful you were, curious even, the uncertainty in your mind of the finished product. This is despite whether or not you were copying a cocktail recipe or creating your own.
You are now on your couch enjoying your homemade cocktail, that you, yes you mixed yourself, all the flavours are well balanced, this includes sweet ingredients and bitter ones, your taste buds have been longing for this cocktail and you are excited to share this recipe with your friends or even family. And this is all because you got creative and cocktailed your moment alone.
Think of how our lives are full of different ingredients/aspects that are not utilised. These are aspects that are both sweet and bitter. Generally, we prefer sweet moments over bitter ones, and yes, this is because sweet is perceived as better, the preferred choice. Most of us, remember the taste of bitter more than we do with the sweet taste. I want you to think of your own amazing cocktail and how all flavours complement each other, both sweet and bitter, how they together make one tasteful flavour that you could not wait to share with your friends and I want you to think of moments in your life that were both sweet and bitter, and how they made you the person that you are currently. These are moments that developed your character. They never worked in isolation, but rather together, they contributed to the person that you are.
Bitter moments are moments that you, with a shift in perspective could bring about the best lessons and admirable features in your life. No moment in your life should be wasted and this is both sweet or bitter moments and this is because when all these moments are brought together, they bring out the best characters in us.
Maybe if we try to look at our bitter moments with a different mind-set and a different angle we might just realize that those bitter moments are part of the ingredients for our cocktail mixing and they too contribute to our growth and success and thus making our lives one flavorful cocktail.
